A Gorgon’s Tale

There is very little spoken text in this show. The following scenes are all that is spoken.

Introduction

IAN, LAURA, BEHROOZ: Hello

IAN: My name is Ian

LAURA: I am Laura

BEHROOZ: …and I’m Behrooz

IAN: My ancestors came from Inverness shire Scotland and arrived in Pictou County, Nova Scotia in 18… something.

LAURA: My ancestors came from various locations in Europe and some from Turtle Island. I am not sure when they got here.

BEHROOZ: My family is from Iran, that is where I was born and now I am here.

IAN: We are in Mi’kma’ki, the unceded ancestral territory of the Mi’kmaq people

LAURA: Our being here is possible because of the Peace and Friendship Treaties first singed between the Mi’kmaq people and the British crown in 1725. We are grateful to be able to live, work and play here.

First song

Here we are, a tale to be told,

of bone to seed in a garden of ruin,

the setting sun rising again,

of seed and soil,

from grave to green unfolding.

First Prophecy

ORACLE: Hello? Oh there you are. I am the oracle! (thunder). Thank you. I have been summoned here by the sun and bring a prophecy for you. Behold my prophecy! Ah, the death card… Snakes, spiders, dramatic change… aye, it’s all there. Good luck with that. The oracle was spoken! (thunder)

Second Prophecy

ORACLE: Ah it is you. I am the oracle! (thunder). Thank you. I have been summoned here by the tree and bring a prophecy for you. Are you ready? Behold my prophecy. Ah, the fool card. It looks like you are in for a long, long journey. Good luck. The oracle was spoken! (thunder)

2nd Song

The tree lays rings from green to gold

The moon chased time as the seasons go by

A place to be holding life

The tides recede as the sap runs dry.

King

This character speaks in grunts and single words that names the things he sees.
