Captioning for A Gorgon’s Tale

There is very little spoken text in this show. The following scenes are all that is spoken.

Introduction

Behrooz: Hello, I am Behrooz.

Laura: Hi, I am Laura.

Bianca: Hello, I am Bianca.

Laura: Welcome to a Gorgon’s Tale.

Behrooz: My family is from Iran and that’s where I was born and grew up. My family and I eventually had to leave Iran and over a ten years long period we found ourselves in Mi’kma’ki. It was here in the unceded territory of the Mi’kmaq people where I found my long and deeply desired sense of belonging.

Laura: I grew up in the Maritimes. My ancestors are mostly European settlers.

Bianca: I grew up around here. My ancestors are Acadian and Mi’kmaq. We are very grateful to share this show with you in this beautiful space.

Laura: We would like to offer this show in celebration of the resiliency of this land and its people.

First song

Here we are, a tale to be told,

of bone to seed in a garden of ruin,

the setting sun rising again,

of seed and soil,

a Gorgon’s fate unfolding.

King

This character speaks in grunts and single words that names the things he sees.

First Prophecy

 Oracle: Shazah! Je suis l’oracle

J’ai une prophétie pour vous!

King : you?

Oracle : No you!

King : Me

Oracle : Yes. Voici (release scroll) Shazah!

Ah… La mort…

King : Death?

Oracle : Je vois… Je vois… des serpents… des araignées… de grands changements… Bonne chance! The Oracle has spoken! Shazah!

Second Prophecy

Oracle :  Shazah! Je suis l’Oracle.

J’ai une prophétie pour vous.

Voici! (release scroll) Shazah!

Ah…. The Empress

Je vois… Je vois… Une couronne et la nature fleurissante

(Gorgon is confused)

Laisse-moi t’aider. Vous and this seed shall restore le monde. Bring the seed to the King.

Bon courage! Shazah!

2nd Song

The tree lays rings from green to gold

The moon chased time as the seasons go by

A place to be, holding life

The tides recede as the sap runs dry.

Third Prophecy

Oracle: Do I smell prophecies?

C’est moi, again. (sees Gorgon) Oh c’est vous! Do you need help reading these? C’est ma job!

(first scroll) Je vois… Je vois.. Le roi dans sont château..

(second scroll) I see… A seed that can only grow from death.. La mort! (Gorgon reacts)

(third scroll) But this card tells me that you are safe as long as you stay on the surface of the Earth… tant et aussi longtemps que vous restez sur la surface de la Terre.

Lâches pas la patate!

Shazah!

3rd Song

Here we are, a tale to be told,

of bone to seed in a garden of ruin,

the setting sun rising again,

of seed and soil,

from grave to green unfolding.
